Should Osaka Expo 2025’s Ring Be a National Treasure? A Call to Preserve Its Legacy

Should the iconic Ring of the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, designed by Sosuke Fujimoto, be designated as a National Treasure? Watching the August 2nd broadcast of TV Tokyo’s “Shin-Bi no Kyojin-tachi” (New Giants of Art) solidified my conviction.

While Taro Okamoto‘s Tower of the Sun is a designated Important Cultural Property, I believe the Expo 2025 Ring, the State Guest House, and the Forest of Tranquility should all be designated as National Treasures. This is a self-evident fact recognized by people from all over the world visiting the Expo.

On the other hand, the introduction of Chinese-made buses by the Osaka Ishin no Kai (Osaka Innovation Association) is not only damaging the Expo‘s image but also raises concerns about potential information leaks. To redeem this failure, the Ishin no Kai should make a concerted effort to have the Ring designated as a National Treasure.

Furthermore, as a legacy of Expo 2025, I propose preserving the Festival Hall as a premier venue for music events, ensuring it remains an invaluable part of Osaka’s cultural landscape.

To broadcast this proposal to the world, I am committed to documenting and sharing my experiences on the Ring’s promenade with my favorite music until the Expo closes. I invite you to share your thoughts on the future of Osaka and the cultural value of the Expo’s assets.
